Refresher Advanced Fire Fighting (RAFF) Course
The Refresher Advanced Fire Fighting (RAFF) is a 1-day mandatory course for seafarers renewing their AFF certificate every 5 years, as per STCW Table A-VI/3 and DG Shipping Guidelines. The course updates participants on fire control techniques, emergency team leadership, operation of fire detection and extinguishing systems, and fire investigation procedures to ensure continued proficiency onboard.
To join the Refresher Advanced Fire Fighting course, candidates must have:
A valid or expiring Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) Certificate
Valid Medical Fitness Certificate from a DG Shipping–approved doctor
INDOS, CDC, Passport
Proof of sea service (if required by DG Shipping)
2 passport-size photographs
STCW Table A-VI/3 – Advanced Fire Fighting
Control firefighting operations aboard ships
Organise and train fire parties
Examine and service fire detection and fire extinguishing systems and equipment
Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire
The STCW requirement for refresher training at 5-yearly intervals must be met or sufficient onboard evidence must be provided.
